This Is Yung

Amal Khalaf works at the intersection of art and social justice, shaping institutions, communities, and global exhibitions through a collaborative, socially aware curatorial practice. With roles including curator, artistic director, and programme lead, she champions projects that foreground under-represented voices, identity, space, and collective memory.

Her recent curatorial leadership includes serving as curator of Ghost 2568 (2025, Bangkok) and co-Artistic Director of the Busan Biennale (2025–2026, South Korea). From 2019–2025 she was Director of Programmes at Cubitt, and she co-curated Sharjah Biennial 16 (2023–2025, UAE). Between 2009 and 2023, as Civic Curator at Serpentine Galleries in London she developed over 50 long-term collaborative, community-focused art projects across the city.

Across her career, Khalaf has commissioned and produced over thirty artist films that have been shown globally, curated international biennales and pavilion presentations, and co-directed influential forums such as the Global Art Forum at Art Dubai. Her work has appeared in major institutions around the world, reflecting her commitment to making contemporary art socially relevant, accessible and globally engaged.

Alongside curating, she is a published writer and editor, co-editing books such as Vertical Atlas (2022), How We Hold (2023) and Radio Ballads: Songs for Change (2025). Through her multifaceted practice, Amal Khalaf continues to shape contemporary art by weaving together institutional vision, community engagement and critical discourse.
