Art and Culture at the Cultural Foundation Abu Dhabi

Step into a world where culture transcends boundaries at the Cultural Foundation (Instagram), the vibrant heart of Abu Dhabi’s artistic landscape, under the auspices of the Department of Culture and Tourism. This dynamic cultural hub is a veritable feast for the senses, offering a year-round programme brimming with exhibitions, performances, talks, workshops, and so much more, all meticulously crafted to support and nurture the creative spirits within our community.

EXHIBITIONS

Mark your calendars, art aficionados! Until 8 March 2025, the Cultural Foundation will unveil a profound exhibition by the internationally acclaimed artist Zineb Sedira, titled “A way of surviving, a way of life…”. This exhibit is not merely an event; it’s an exploration of Sedira’s cinematic oeuvre, spanning two decades of cultural commentary and identity exploration. With four powerful films including the award-winning Dreams Have No Titles, the exhibition dives deep into the intricate web of migration, memory, and the heritage of anticolonial cinema. The centrepiece? A full-scale cinema installation that invites visitors to immerse themselves in Sedira’s poignant narrative of displacement and longing.

But wait, there’s more! In November, the Cultural Foundation will delight our younger audiences with “Emirati Crafts”, an interactive exhibition designed for children aged 5 to 12. The inaugural edition, “The Art of Weaving”, will showcase the rich tapestry of traditional Emirati weaving techniques. Expect a hands-on experience featuring digital games, guided tutorials, and visual storytelling that promises to enchant and educate.

PERFORMING ARTS

October brings with it a theatrical delight as Ihtiraq Shamaa unfolds the poignant tale of a writer’s struggles, while a whimsical journey with There’s A Monster In Your Show promises to ignite the imaginations of children and families alike. Not to mention that the magnificent Swan Lake on Ice will take centre stage, melding the grace of ballet with the thrill of figure skating.

As the year draws to a close, don’t miss the centenary celebration of the legendary Charles Aznavour with Merci, Charles — a musical homage that will stir your soul. And November is set to be spectacular with performances that span from authentic flamenco to a captivating tribute to Mozart, ensuring there’s something for every taste.
