To mark its 150th anniversary, Audemars Piguet (Instagram) has unveiled a show-stopping new creation: the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked “150th Anniversary”. Limited to just 150 pieces, this model is far more than a commemorative timepiece—it’s a masterclass in craftsmanship and design, blending cutting-edge materials with a deep respect for horological history.

At its heart beats the Calibre 5135, making its final appearance after nearly a decade of defining the brand’s openworked perpetual calendars. This edition not only honours the movement’s legacy, but also looks forward—offering an ultra-modern interpretation of a timeless complication.

Calibre 5135 traces its origins to Audemars Piguet’s storied past—evolving from the groundbreaking Calibre 2120/2800 introduced in the 1970s during the quartz crisis. Through decades of innovation, Audemars Piguet continually elevated the perpetual calendar, from early Royal Oak adaptations to creative iterations in ceramic and Frosted Gold. Now, with this 150th Anniversary edition, the Manufacture bids farewell to the calibre in spectacular fashion.

This 41 mm timepiece delivers a striking contrast of textures and tones. Its ultra-light titanium case is combined with Bulk Metallic Glass (BMG)—a high-tech, palladium-based alloy known for its resilience and mirror-like lustre. BMG adorns the bezel, caseback frame, and bracelet studs, producing a captivating interplay of light against the satin-brushed titanium.

Audemars Piguet first coupled BMG with titanium in the Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin in 2021—and is now pushing the innovation further in this anniversary model.

Paying homage to a pocket watch housed in the brand’s own Musée Atelier, this edition’s dial celebrates vintage cues with contemporary execution. The dial places the openworked movement centre stage, while rich blue accents and luminescent 18-carat white gold hands elevate legibility and elegance.

Notably, the moon-phase display at 6 o’clock features a NASA-inspired photorealistic moon—a poetic nod to celestial timekeeping. In a unique twist, the display shows the lunar cycle from both Northern and Southern Hemisphere perspectives through the use of two moons.

In addition to commemorative engravings—including the “150” logo and individual numbering—this limited edition is a true collector’s item for those who seek both heritage and innovation on the wrist.

For a Manufacture that has continuously shaped the future of haute horlogerie, this Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar “150th Anniversary” Openworked is a fitting tribute to 150 years of bold design and timeless craftsmanship.
