On March 8th, Beirut’s cultural heart, Recess, will thrum with the energy of “Al Ounss,” a music and arts showcase celebrating the colourful spectrum of female Arab artistry, sisterhood, and the boundless creativity of MENA women. The Arabic term “Al Ounss” translates not only to “female” but also to “merriment, fun, and gaiety,” perfectly capturing the spirit of this empowering evening. Co-hosted by Black Howl (Instagram), the event will kick off at 8 PM with a specially curated art exhibit presented by renowned art consultant Tara Rahmeh, offering a glimpse into the diverse artistic expressions of women in the region. This visual display will set the stage for the musical performances to follow.
The event features a diverse roster of talents, each with a unique voice and story to share, from across Lebanon and Egypt. Lebanese-American artist Sarah Mansour will weave a dreamy soundscape with her R&B-Pop, while Talia Lahoud, hailing from Lebanon, brings soulful melodies and introspective lyrics, offering a fresh perspective on Arabic Pop.
Egyptian singer Donia Wael joins the mix with her powerful vocals and relatable songs. Rounding out the showcase is Roxane, a Lebanese singer-songwriter known for her empowering anthems that challenge societal norms. Her electrifying performance promises to be a highlight of the evening.
“Al Ounss” is more than just a showcase; it’s a necessary platform for elevating female voices, as co- organizer Tarek El Mendelek explains, “Celebrating women should be done every single day, And I’m so honoured we get to showcase seven incredible female artists from the region to help amplify their voices.”
Mark your calendars for March 8th and head to Recess Beirut to experience “Al Ounss,” a celebration of female artistry in the heart of Beirut.
