Sneakers and streetwear are such a massive market that in recent years most luxury brands have added some kind of streetwear item to their line-ups. For its FW/ 22 season, Italian luxury fashion house, Bottega Veneta has introduced the brand’s latest Pillow sneaker.
The Pillow sneaker is Bottega’s version of the recently beloved skate sneaker silhouette that has taken the fashion world by storm. Boasting a robust silhouette, the sneaker has a more formalised approach, featuring a classic rope lace-up front and clean leather upper. The sneaker also comes with a fattened tongue and an oversized midsole – keeping to its skate-inspired origins.
The sneaker arrives in black, white, and parakeet (that’s green to you and us), and features sleek, minimal branding on both the tongue and sole. The sneaker is also fitted with a pull tab at the heel, adding to its comfort and aesthetic. The fluid silhouette is unisex, and “transcends constructs between masculine and feminine.”
Bottega Veneta has, in recent years, become one of the hottest accessory purveyors. Under new creative director Matthieu Blazy, accessories from the FW/22 show arrived with either a woven leather approach – as seen on the brand’s bags, or a seamless, minimalist approach which the Pillow sneaker is crafted from.
Skate-inspired sneakers have been receiving a lot of attention of late. Brands such as Louis Vuitton, as well as the latest ERL x Dior collab, have all teased shoes in the classic silhouette. Skate shoes saw a boom in the mid-late ’80s. Vans’ success with skate shoes, spawned several footwear brands to create similar shoes a decade later. In the early 2000’s large athletic shoe brands Nike and Adidas got in on the action and combining their advanced footwear technology with heritage styles, signed bumper contracts with all the top skaters.
