Coach Spring 2024 – Redefining heritage for a new generation

Coach, the iconic American house (Instagram), recently unveiled its Spring 2024 collection at a captivating runway show held at the New York Public Library. The event showcased Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers’ vision of heritage as redefined by today’s generation through a collection steeped in Coach’s design codes and archival language that set a foundation for a new generation’s personal style and individual expression.

Building upon the youthful interpretations of Coach’s American design language seen in the Fall collection, Spring 2024 introduced tailored silhouettes in heritage materials infused with a youthful counter-culture attitude. These designs beautifully melded the love-worn charm of one-of-a-kind vintage pieces with a fresh perspective.

The collection featured leatherware, fringed suede jackets, blazers, and regenerative cotton and denim staples. What set these pieces apart was their hand-distressed artisanal elements, creating variations in texture and color. This detail not only celebrated the beauty of pre-loved garments that grow more valuable with wear, but also challenged conventional notions of luxury that often prioritize perfection.

Following the runway show, a seated dinner took place in the library’s Edna Barnes Salomon Room, a special occasion as it marked Vevers’ 10th anniversary with Coach. His vision of reimagining the house’s heritage for the present was a central theme of the evening. Vevers believes in fashion as a community where everyone is free to express themselves authentically.

For fashion enthusiasts eager to own a piece of the Spring 2024 collection, a curated selection, including quilted Tabbies and items featuring the collection’s kiss print, is available now at Coach House and Coach SoHo in New York City and on coach.com.

Spring 2024 also introduced and expanded on design concepts under Coach’s (Re)Loved program. This initiative is all about exploring circular craft, with a focus on reducing waste during the creative process. The collection featured repurposed leatherware and denim crafted from deadstock and pre-loved pieces sourced by Coach’s design team. Slip dresses were created with lace and fabric remnants from previous Coach productions. The brand’s commitment to sustainability continued with the use of regenerative and recycled materials, along with botanical dyes in slip dresses derived from marigolds, black walnut, logwood, indigo, and more.

The collection presented sheer, raw-cut slip dresses and worn-and-repaired knit dresses, showcasing meticulous hand-darning and mending. For those seeking a sporty twist, Coach introduced a series of collegiate t-shirts and sweatsuits, featuring graphics inspired by Donohue’s, the classic Upper East Side steakhouse. Leather goods and footwear added a playful contrast to the heritage pieces, with colorful patent sneakers, jelly flats, and new quilted iterations of the Coach Shapes and the iconic Coach Tabby bag. Vevers even explored leather versions of everyday bag silhouettes, including a bowling bag and an oversized basket tote.

Vevers shared his thoughts, saying, “Spring is a tribute to the way today’s generation is writing their own story through fashion, and the New York Public Library instinctually felt like the perfect backdrop to unveil this next chapter.” He further explained that the collection aimed to capture the essence of New York fashion archetypes, then and now, while remaining true to Coach’s enduring fashion language.

Coach’s Spring 2024 collection is not just about fashion; it’s a testament to the ever-evolving narrative of style and self-expression in today’s world. The perfect of example of this was Vevers’ use of street casting to fill out his models and to bring fresh faces to the show.
