Kim Jones is set to bring his Dior men’s show to Cairo. The men’s pre-fall collection is pencilled in to be unveiled on December 3, with a runway on the foreground of Giza’s pyramids. The Cairo show will be the latest destination in the French Houses traveling shows. According to WWD the house said, “the celestial collection celebrates a lifelong passion for travel.”

Last year the house resumed its tradition of travelling men’s pre-fall collections, showcasing them in London. The designer has previously showcased in Tokyo and Miami and will now turn to Africa for his latest show.

The pyramids are getting much love from the art world in recent months, following the decision to host Art D’Egypte Forever Now II showcase at the iconic landmark between October 27 and November 30.

Jones has a long history of traveling the world, and has a special bond with Africa, where he spent his formative years in Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Ghana. The designer is also known to travel the world as he seeks inspiration, as well to as see exotic animals in their natural habitat. Jones is also a keen conservationist, having sponsored the upkeep and protection of several endangered species.

In essence Jones shares a kindred spirit with the man who founded the house he heads. Christian Dior was also fond of traveling and spent much of his time creating subsidiaries all over the world following the launch of his eponymous label in 1947. A couple of years later and Dior had companies and affiliates on five different continents.

In recent years there has been a keen interest by major fashion houses in the African continent. Yves Saint Laurent shred an affinity for the continent and spent much of his life there. Saint Laurent recently paid a tribute to Yves’s love for Morocco, having staged a show in the Agafay desert.

The show at the pyramids will be the first time ever that Dior has staged a show in Egypt. The house has previously travelled to Italy, Greece, Spain, South Korea, China, The UK and the US.
