Donia Wael is Back and She’s in Full Bloom

2025 is already looking like a good year for music.

Donia Wael is Back and She’s in Full Bloom
Menna Shanab

Donia Wael is stepping gracefully into a new era of her career. Today, we meet an evolved Donia, a woman fully emersed in her artโ€”into herself. Her words are more assured, her presence more commanding. Now, rather than reinventing herself, she is unfolding. She sings in full sentences, each phrase carrying a newfound depth, her voice is more textured, more present, more unshaken in its vulnerability. Even its timbre has shifted, mirroring the growth she has undergone.

Music has always been her truest form of expression, a medium through which she gathers all these fleeting emotions and pools them into melody. Yet, a brief excursion into actingโ€”taking on roles in El Harsha El Sabaa and Rivoโ€”helped expand that creative lens, deepening her storytelling, and buttressing her music with a newfound perspective that is palpable in her upcoming project, Bifkrny Beek. A four-track exploration of healing and self-discovery, the EP is said to unfold like a personal diary, each song an intimate reflection of a distinct emotional phase.

Rather than unveiling the project in its entirety, Donia is embracing a deliberate, measured approach. Sheโ€™s letting each track breathe, giving listeners time to connect with the music. ย The first offering, Mafish, produced by Egyptian producer Riff, sets the tone for what is to come. The music video, directed by Zaid Khaled, captures Donia in her most unfiltered stateโ€”playful, candid, and wholly herself. As the video transitions into a soft, muted setting, her voice takes centre stage, at once delicate and powerful.

Her music is refreshingly uncontrivedโ€”there is no pretense, no forced dramatization. Now, returning to music with a renewed sense of purpose, Donia is simply doing what she lovesโ€”creating songs that feel like conversations, moments, and memories. Bifkrny Beek is an invitation to sit with your emotions, take it in, and experience it fully.
