Marco De Vincenzo has brought in a new era at ETRO. With his recent appointment as creative director, and Etro’s SS23 being his debut collection for the Italian house, the designer looked to the house’s heritage with a renewed perspective, adding an eccentric and essential aesthetic many had been anticipating.
De Vincenzo looks to construct a wardrobe of essential pieces with decisive proportions in bold colours. These pieces are rendered in rich fabrics that celebrate nature and the origins of the brand – Made in Italy. By contrast, the designer used psychedelic colours and patterns for his catwalk, which alongside the decorative fabrics of the collection successfully brought his vision to life.
When it came to accessories, the designer joined forces with Mytheresa.com through a unique collaboration which brought the brand’s exclusive Love rotter Bag Capsule to life. The capsule intertwines the origins of the luxury brand and the future of sustainability. Crafted entirely by hand in Italy, the My Theresa x ETRO bag is a combination of premium textiles from Etro’s Home Collection archive that features colorful and bold logoed handles crafted from recycled plastic.
“Etro was founded in 1968 as a textile company, which is why its connection with textiles is so deeply embedded. I visited the Maison’s archives on 6th June 2022 for the first time, a place brimming with Made in Italy history and inspiration. There were eleven disused fabrics that captured my imagination that day, inspiring me to create a special upcycling project. And so, Love Trotter came into being, from the desire to transform and renew. This limited edition bag collection made from upcycled fabric scraps and recycled plastic is my first homage to ETRO’s history and sustainability.” De Vincenzo said.
ETRO’s SS23 collection is the beginning of De Vincenzo’s journey – one which looks to the future. If his debut collection is any indication of what’s to come, we think ETRO is about to enter an entirely new dimension and it’s one we’ll closely be watching!
