Fendi seems to have found a place in New York and is taking New York Fashion Week back to its former glory. It had been a long time since the city had experienced a production as big as the one it hosted over the weekend. For Fendi Resort 2023 collection, Kim Jones teamed up with Marc Jacobs, Porter, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Tiffany & Co, to celebrate 25 years of the house’s famous Baguette Bag.
The show, held at the Hammerstein Ballroom, welcomed the spirit of collaboration to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Baguette Bag. The designers brought NYC street style to their collection which featured knits, artisanal denim, technical outerwear, and stacked accessories. The theme was utility – and the ready-to-wear approach included windbreakers that featured colour-blocked plackets on the chest, more bomber jackets came with double zip closures and envelope-sized pocket enclosures. The collection also featured tonal cargo pants, Fendi Roma logo shirts, military boots, and decorated beanies. The utility theme lent itself to gaiters and beanies that came with built-in Baguettes.
Outerwear, baseball caps and a Tiffany Blue satin Baguette all came with the collaborative logo, that saw the Tiffany T combined with Fendi’s inverted F, featuring as graphitised hardware on each of these items. The collection also introduced a super-mini-Baguette that comes with multi-pocket compartments.
The show also brought back Carrie Bradshaw’s Sex and The City Baguette Bag, co-designed by the actress in hues of bright pink, blue and purple degrade sequins. Each bag from this capsule features Bradshaw’s memorable quote, “it’s not a bag, it’s a Baguette.”
“I didn’t want to do a traditional collection for the anniversary,” Jones said, “Rather it’s a celebration of a time, of the moment the Baguette became famous. I relate that time to a sense of freedom in excess and fun – both qualities the Baguette possesses.”
