The famed Lebanese house, Maison Georges Hobeika, presented its Couture SS 2023 collection at Paris Fashion Week, with a joyful collection that showcased the importance of relationships and interactions between family and friends. The Maison, which is now run under the creative direction of a father and some duo, underlined the concept of relationships through a powerful link with the house’s archives and ateliers. The collection also showcased the importance of a support network and the people who bring us together.
Casting friends of Maison Georges Hobeika
To celebrate the importance of relationships and friendships, Hobeika cast a number of friends of the Maison to walk his “Small Talks” collection down the runway. Among them were Leonie Hanne, Gabrielle Caunsell, Jessica Kahawaty and her mother, Cynthia Samuel, along with Adam Bakri, Leonie Vergani, Valentina, and twins Habdan and Diala Makki. To underscore the concept, models walked down the runway in pairs, emphasizing the importance of relationships.
Men’s couture features again
Men’s couture once again featured as part of the Maison’s collection, reaffirming its place as part of the House’s DNA and underscoring almost 30 years of creative history. This heritage formed the basis of seventy looks that drew on key elements to showcase Maison Georges Hobeika’s exquisite craftsmanship while maintaining a feeling of lightness to suit the contemporary generation of couture clients.
The collection
The collection’s silhouettes further reflected this sense of ease and modernity. Dresses appeared to float on the body and featured necklines reminiscent of those that featured on the royal gowns of Marie Antoinette, giving a fresh twist to the jumpsuit shape. The elaborate embroidery, synonymous with Maison’s heritage, added a magical touch of trompe-l’oeil in the form of frosted water droplets, cascading diamond shapes, and an ethereal burst of flowing feathers. Evoking the links between individuals, Hobeika employed gold and silver chains as well as intricate thread embroidery. Jad Hobeika’s childhood memories were echoed through motifs that included a horse’s head, birds, and feathers. The colour palette featured essential yellows, pinks, and blues, alongside black and white, which allowed for a play on contrast.
This latest couture collection is a reflection of the brand. The old and the new, father and son. It brings together the brand’s heritage while integrating bright new energy, serving as the ultimate vector of happy moments. The collection highlights the importance of connections, where “small talks” stand out in a virtual world.
