In the world of timeless elegance and refined sophistication, Malone Souliers (Instagram) unveils its AW24 collection, a homage to the enduring style of mid-century Italian design. Inspired by the architectural brilliance and design pioneers of the 1940s to the 1960s—think Gio Ponti, Carlo Scarpa, and Gae Aulenti—the collection encapsulates the essence of an era defined by clean lines, contrasting materials, and an earthy colour palette.
During London Fashion Week, Malone Souliers’ presentation took centre stage within the storied Heal’s Building on Tottenham Court Road, a former furniture factory. Drawing inspiration from the Milanese apartment Gae Aulenti renovated for the Agnelli family, known as the ‘art collector’s house’, the presentation cleverly structured its environment around artworks, echoing the pivotal role they played in Aulenti’s aesthetic vision.
The space, adorned with stainless steel, stacked bricks, concrete, and gloss finishes, pays homage to the unorthodox materials central to mid-century design. This transformation turns shoes and handbags into veritable works of art, much like the Italian creations of the era.
The Mona mule, epitome of contemporary-classic, features a crystal-encrusted crest, while the Yuna sandal draws inspiration from Ponti’s iconic ‘811’ armchair, showcasing a balanced wooden frame. Meanwhile, the Cristi mule explores material play with combinations of croc-embossed leather or patent with mesh, echoing the experimentation of the period.
Adding to the allure, the Vivien bag receives a streamlined reimagining, accented by shimmering crystal lines, while the new style Vittoria is a meticulously hand-draped clutch, offering a soft yet statement silhouette.
From the geometric crystal embellishments of the Jazz slingback to the sleek lines and distinctive crest detail of the Rossella ankle boot, each piece in the collection is a testament to the House’s commitment to craftsmanship and creativity.
Launching in June 2024, the AW24 collection will be available online at malonesouliers.com and at the Harrods concession in Shoe Heaven. With a dedication to timeless style, impeccable fit, and iconic silhouettes, the brand continues to redefine luxury footwear while embracing principles of sustainability and craftsmanship.
Commenting on the collection, Malone Souliers’ Co-Creative Directors released a statement, saying, “Italian craftsmanship is intrinsic to the heritage of Malone Souliers. Every trip to Italy is a design pilgrimage and the AW24 collection is a love letter to the radical influence of the country’s unparalleled aesthetic, which we have long and deeply admired.”
