Rumours of a Jacquemus and Nike collab began to circle back in February last year. This was after Yoon Ahn, founder of Ambush, and Nike announced their collaboration by posting a caption on Instagram reading, “Checks Over Stripes.” The image included Jacquemus along with several other Nike affiliated designers like Virgil Abloh, Rei Kawakubo, and Kim Jones among others. That hint was followed by Jacquemus models sporting sneakers that looked oddly like Nike Air Series 6e.
It was finally confirmed earlier this week. The Jacquemus x Nike capsule collection will be dropping soon. The pair have been working on a collaboration for the better part of the last three years. Jacquemus finally announced the news via a video on Instagram, which showed a volleyball court with Jacquemus and Nike branding.
The fifteen-piece collection will see traditional womenswear items designed for everyone. The collection will feature a camel hued Humara sneaker reimagined by Jacquemus. Elsewhere in the collection, you’ll find unisex pleated skirts, biker shorts in Nike’s seamless technology material, as well as dual-branded hats.
“For this collaboration with Nike, I wanted to create a collection that reinterprets athletic women’s sportswear in a minimal way,” says the French designer, “I have always been inspired by vintage ACG pieces and Nike campaigns from the ’90s. Having this imagery in mind, we designed women’s athletic wear with sensuous details and neutral colours, along with my own interpretation of the Humara, my favourite Nike shoe. It was important for the collection to be accessible for all bodies, and to be a natural blend of Jacquemus style and Nike performance.”
This collection aims to bring the French designer’s idea that sport and style enjoy a fluid relationship. This collection will invigorate the celebration of the multidimensionality of contemporary athletes, to discover a world where outdoor pursuits and court sports merge a new kind of integrated aesthetic.
The Jacquemus x Nike collection will launch here on June 28th and will be available in all Nike retail stores and online at the beginning of the Summer.
