Luxury textile producer Schenti Studio has collaborated with French couture house Christian Dior to create handmade jacquard throws and furniture for the Maison’s historic fashion show held beneath the great pyramids of Giza.
Inspired by the notion of a Futuristic Savoir Faire, the textiles form a stunning harmony of contemporary design and the artisanal heritage and history of Egypt’s ancient pharaohs.
Schenti Studio used Dior’s renowned CD diamond pattern to create the bespoke jacquard throws, which featured handmade tassels that were knitted by Egyptian artisans. The tassels were accompanied by Dior’s logo which was embroidered on the throws.
The luxury textile producer has also created custom-made furniture for Dior’s 2023 Men’s Fall Show which was presented at the Pyramids alongside the throws. The furniture included modular sofas and first-row cushions along with back and backless cushions. The pieces consisted of a unique hand-made blend of Egyptian cotton-linen fabric that was woven by their in-house artisans in Luxor. The entire process was an homage to ancient Egyptian textile production techniques and the machines upon which they rely.
Schenti Studio was founded by Mariam Elshafie and Andrew Farid Demetry. The studio is based between Cairo and London and serves as a collaborative procurement and design studio that manufactures high-quality woven textiles from Egypt. Schenti offers a wide range of luxurious fabrics that are used for interiors and fashion, soft furnishings, and furniture.
The word Schenti describes Ancient Egyptian loincloths, and the studio works towards honouring the historical and unparalleled Kemet traditions and the fine-tuned craftsmanship of textiles that were in use at the time of the Pharaohs.
The studio works together with creative teams from design initiation, through to production and development, manufacturing, logistics, as well as supplying textiles that appeal to their clients. The products manufactured by Schenti Studios are all crafted using sustainable natural fabrics that ensure that the pieces offer longevity while being kind to the environment.
