The Dsquared2 (Instagram) Fall-Winter 2023 CO-ED Collection screams: ‘this is judgement free zone.’ It’s what teenage dreams are made of. From the geek, jock, goth, to the emo and the femme— the CO-ED Collection breaks all those stereotypes, only to put them back together, reaffirming one message — you are free to be who you want to be.
Basking in the glory of all things Y2K, the Dsquared2 show is looking back to look forward. Two decades since the brand’s first women’s runway show, the Canadian duo explored teenage characters and unleashed all of their famed energy with a mashup styling that is unapologetically maximalist and camp. It’s quite the comeback, if you ask us.
From denim elaborately quilted with contrasting proportions, to fringed jackets, crop jersey tanks, chunky knits and lingerie lace tanks — this collection is gender non-conforming, it perfectly blurs the lines, giving everyone the freedom to explore and have fun with fashion as they see fit. Isn’t this what fashion is all about? It’s an escape from the harsh reality we live in, and Dsquared2 has done just that — transported us to an alternative reality where individualism reigns supreme.
Harking back to all things Y2K, it looks like low slung waists and metal branded buckles are back in fashion. Characters from Pac-Man, an iconic, nostalgic arcade game, are printed onto T-shirts and are part of a new collaboration with the brand. The show was a blast from the past, giving the 2000’s Dsquared2 treatment.
The collection oozed sexiness. From lace on underwear and camisoles which peeped through looks, to glossy duchesse satin parkas featuring lace details and thermo plastic heart shaped bags in pop colours of candy pink and yellow, scandalous cuts and graphic tees took centre stage.
