In recent years, sports watches have become widely popular, and all of our favourite watch brands have been adding sporty additions to their line-up. Now, while there are no official statistics, or numbers to prove that sports watches are dominating the luxury watch sector, anecdotal feedback suggests that it is indeed sports watches that leading the field.Â
Here are YUNG’s best sport watches for 2022.
Ulysse Nardine Diver Norrona Arctic Night
The Diver Norrona Arctic Night is an example of a great collaboration between two brands. Ulysse Nardine worked with Norwegian outdoor brand Norrona, known for its premium and sustainable outerwear, with stunning results. The companies collaborated on a 44mm timepiece that uses alternative and sustainable materials in black, grey, and white, cladding the watch in the same colour palette of Norway’s fjords and volcanic rocks. The watch is a limited edition, with just 29 pieces created.Â
Zenith Defy Extreme E Island X Prix Edition
Luxury watchmakers have been enamoured with the automotive world for a long time, with their designers celebrating a host of iconic vehicles over the years. It comes as no surprise that, with the birth of the electric car, watch brands are teaming up with EV manufacturers from around the world. Zenith’s Defy Extreme E Island X Prix Edition is the second collab between the brand and sustainable racing league Extreme E. The watch is limited to 20 pieces and features a 45 mm open-worked case with a rubber strap that is crafted from recycled Continental CrossContact tyres.Â
Rolex Oyster Yacht-Master 42
Since its first edition in 1992, the Rolex Oyster Yacht-Master has been clad in a variety of precious metals, predominantly 18-karat gold, but also in a combination of platinum and stainless steel. The latest edition of the Yacht-Master, however, is a 42 mm model that’s cased in 18-karat yellow gold for the first time. The watch features a matte black ceramic bezel, a minimalist dial and a black Oysterfelx bracelet. This edition continues the Yacht-Masters’ luxe reputation.Â
TAG Heuer Carrera Plasma
In March this year, TAG Heuer proved that it is possible to grow lab diamonds and use them to create pioneering watch designs. The watchmaker introduced the TAG Heuer Carrera Plasma Nanograph, a one-of-a-kind piece that features 11.7 carats of man-made diamonds. The watch comes in a 44 mm black anodized aluminium case and features a dial formed from a single plate of polycrystalline diamonds. The crown is made from a 2.5-carat lab-grown gem and the case is set with diamonds in elongated custom-cut shapes. The watch retails at $374,000.Â
