In collaboration with Samuel Ross, one of Hublot’s brand ambassadors, the new release uses the artwork the fashion designer created when the pair struck their partnership in 2020. The watch is the first collaborative watch between Hublot and Ross and has been named the Big Bang Tourbillon Samuel Ross.
The latest iteration of the Big Bang features a 45b mm satin-polished case with a vivid orange crown, lug, and strap. The watch’s primary design features a hexagonal titanium mesh that looks like little honeycombs spread across the watch’s case, case back, strap and open-worked dial.
“Samuel Ross’s 360-degree approach is unique and intelligent, incorporating the watch, packaging, communication and visual identity,” said Richard Guadalupe, Hublot CEO, in a statement. “What is so special about this collaboration is the direct interaction between design and object, ideas and form.”
Fans of the British designer will find his identity through ought the watch, using geometry, which Ross employs in his apparel and accessories. The orange colour of the watch represents optimism and energy, which is also featured in the pair’s original artwork. While the colour is striking, it is something that Ross steers clear from in his own designs.
According to Hublot, the design reflects natural elements, such as the beehive, snake scales and a snowflake, each featuring the honeycomb. The watch is packed with Hublot’s HUB6035 calibre, which delivers a 72-hour power reserve.
Ross has become the youngest artist to collaborate with Hublot. At just twenty-five, the designer had struck a partnership with the Swiss watchmaker, launching A-Cold-Wall, well known for its original materials and abstract concepts.
