Drake isn’t messing about this year. From dropping his seventh studio album Honestly, Nevermind, to an OVO collab with Toronto FC and the MLS, and even an OVO x Mike Tyson capsule collection (words we never thought we’d write). Now the rapper is set to launch, what we think, could be a NOCTA x Nike basketball collection. Here’s what we know (and some other stuff you might want to know, too).
Hold on, what is NOCTA?
A sub label Drizzy launched with Nike – it stands for Nocturnal Creative Process, if you’re wondering. It came after the Canadian rapper’s “Laugh Now Cry Later” video was shot on location at Nike WHQ and the Nike album merch following the release of his Certified Lover Boy Album.
So, why Nike?
Drake spoke of his love for the brand after dropping the CLB album collab. “I mean, growing up Nike was everything,” he said. “It felt like every shoe I wanted, every athlete I liked, everything I owned was Nike. It didn’t mean anything unless it had a Swoosh. I remember watching all these athletes repping Nike – each doing the unthinkable – and how inspiring it was.”
This is definitely a basketball range?
What do you mean by definitely? Look, we don’t know for sure. However, it’s a well-known fact that Drake has been a die-hard Toronto Raptors fan since time, while his social feed often features images of him shooting hoops at his $1m Ovo home gym. The move tracks.
What can we expect?
Early images don’t show too much, but we can expect a line of performance-focused apparel pieces, which include workout hoodies, tees, shorts, and socks.
Anything else?
Oh yeah. Along with the NOCTA text and Nike Swoosh, some items have the inspiring phrase “Sometimes you, sometimes me, always us” on them. Go Team!
NOCTA has confirmed the collection will drop on July 27
