Northern Irish designer Jonathan Anderson (Instagram) has been appointed as the new creative director of Dior’s (Instagram) women’s, men’s, and haute couture collections. The move marks a major shake-up at the French fashion house, with Anderson stepping into a role held by Maria Grazia Chiuri for nearly a decade.
Chiuri, who became the first woman to lead Dior’s womenswear division in 2016, is credited with ushering in a politically engaged and feminist vision for the brand, infusing runway shows with pointed themes and empowering messages. Her tenure saw both commercial success and critical debate, with signature slogan T-shirts and a steady reinterpretation of the Dior archive.
Anderson, widely regarded as one of fashion’s most inventive voices, currently serves as creative director of Loewe and runs his eponymous label, JW Anderson. Known for his cerebral design language and gender-fluid aesthetics, his appointment signals a possible stylistic pivot for Dior. It remains unclear whether Anderson will continue his roles at Loewe or JW Anderson following the transition.
The appointment positions Dior for a new chapter of cross-category cohesion, with Anderson set to unify the house’s womenswear, menswear, and couture under a singular creative vision for the first time. LVMH, Dior’s parent company, has not yet commented on the report.
