Famed French house Louis Vuitton and Pharrell Williams continue to defy cynics shocked at the creative’s appointment back in February. The multi-hyphenate has turned heads with his latest collection, proving with his debut menswear collection that he’s the perfect fit.

The show embraced a sense of warmth and summer with models walking a yellow brick road at Pont Neuf, which according to Louis Vuitton “orbits the sun as a focal point for opportunity, responsibility, and enhancement,” an apt setting indeed.

Williams went for neutral tones in olive green, khaki, and gray, which he labels “Damoflage” as an homage to his work with Kenzo Creative Director and A Bathing Ape founder Nigo. Co-ordinated suit sets with shorts with matching camouflage boots, coats and jackets in camouflage colours paid homage to Louis Vuitton’s famed Damier monogram, transforming house codes into camo patterns with micro embroideries on tailoring, denim, and accessories. The classic square was seen throughout the collection, appearing in both its normal size and in an oversized version, unifying the coats, jackets, shirts, and ties.

Pearl-adorned cross-body bags added a touch of delicacy to the military-themed looks, and the pixelated theme continued across its bag offerings, including the Dean backpack, Horizon luggage, and mini trunks. The iconic Louis Vuitton trunk was reimagined through Williams’ futuristic lens in Monogram copper, a material that transforms and forms patinas in sunlight.

While the overall collection was somewhat neutral, pieces such as the iconic Keepall and Speedy bags boldly flaunted inflated square monograms rendered in bright tones of yellow, green, blue, and orange, hinting toward Williams’ natural, dynamic colour palette. Denim sets were also present and letterman jackets constructed with navy blue alligator hide where highlights.

At the end of the show, Williams himself appeared, clad in a pixelated Damoflage suit, matching hat and sparkling sunglasses. Not one to hog the limelight, Williams brought out his entire team, where they basked in the figurative sunlight. Voices of Fire, sang “JOY” as he took in the acclaim, singing “If you want it, you can have it. If you need it, you can have it”. Pharrell Williams, a multi-hyphenate, indeed.
