In the heart of Dubai, Badibanga (Instagram) has unveiled its latest collection, Project O, a powerful tribute to origins, evolution, and self-expression. The line is inspired by Amerikamura, Osaka’s iconic hub of culture and counterculture, where tradition and rebellion seamlessly coexist.
Project O is a journey. Drawing on co-founder Oscar Badibanga’s personal sketches from over a decade ago, the line is a reimagining of his creative roots. “This collection is a tribute to my beginnings — the ‘lost file’ of sketches and ideas I created 10 years ago,” he shares.
Key pieces like the Gilda coat, Maloy jacket, and Rash pants return in refreshed fabrics and muted tones, embodying rugged functionality and understated luxury. From the minimalist lines of Japanese architecture, inspired by Tadao Ando, to the practicality of vintage military and workwear, Project O crafts a modern urban uniform.
The collection is steeped in the serenity of Naoshima’s landscapes, paired with the vibrant energy of Amerikamura. “Harmony lies at the heart of this collection,” explains Badibanga. “It reflects the bold rebellion of Amerikamura, the serenity of Japanese craftsmanship, and the structure of timeless architecture. I want these pieces to empower individuality and self-expression while remaining functional and effortless.”
Badibanga’s narrative of resilience and adaptability shines through in every piece, bridging his Congolese heritage with contemporary design. Co-founder Gilda Gilantash sums it up perfectly: “Each piece goes beyond clothing, serving as an extension of the wearer and a canvas for personal storytelling.”
