Creativity is such that it can be sparked by countless perspectives and from the most diverse sources. To illustrate this, Alexander McQueen invited twelve artists to express their working practices while drawing inspiration from the Autumn/Winter 2022 women’s pre-collection.
These artworks create a creative dialogue with the house that so often draws inspiration from the most diverse sources. Each artist has chosen a look from the collection and then produced artwork in their preferred mediums. They have been given complete freedom of expression, resulting in a rich conversation between their artwork and the look they had selected.
“I wanted to engage in a new creative dialogue with the collection this season and see how the artists interpreted the work that we created in the studio,” said Creative Director Sarah Burton.
“It’s been very interesting to see how creativity has sprung from so many different perspectives and the outcomes that have been varied and beautiful. We wanted the artists to have total freedom to respond to the looks, creating bold and thought-provoking conversations with their works. I hope that viewers will be as inspired as we have all been by witnessing these creative processes.”
Alexander McQueen will display these artworks at a temporary installation, which is designed to showcase how individual approaches and art and fashion interact. Stand-out pieces from the collection feature jewellery in the form of asymmetric ear sets, sculptured ear cuffs, and finely engraved coin medallions, among others. Bags feature the Four Ring bag in black and Welsh in red leather, with a detachable chain silver metal chain strap. The famous Curve bag comes in black and tea rose and apricot leather.
The designer chose punk boots in black leather and burnished red and anthracite with silver metal toecaps for shoes. Chain sandals come in black and ivory with a chain embellished toe-strap and a pin heel.
The artists selected are Ann Cathrin November Høibo Beverly Semmes, Bingyi, Cristina de Middel Guinevere van Seenus, Hope Gangloff, Marcia Kure, Jackie Nickerson, Jennie Jieun Lee, Judas Companion Marcela Correa and Marcia Michael.
