On Saturday night, the longest-standing creative director in fashion, Veronique Nichanian, presented her FW 2023 menswear collection for Hermes, the famed French label. Nichanian’s collection plays with the idea of a refined masculine wardrobe and is inspired by the idea that men and women want to be more dressed when rendezvousing in the evenings.

Leather, the core characteristic of Hermes, played an important part in the creation of the collection. This staple appeared in the form of wide-legged black trousers and jackets of calfskin, deerskin blousons and lamb shearling cardigans. This signature of the brand, used since its inception, was deployed perfectly by Nichanian.

Bags

Well, isn’t the Hermes Birkin one of, if not, the most desired bag on the planet, for both men and women? It is a piece of luxury that everyone might aspire to. While there was a portage for every occasion, the plus-sized HAC (haut a courroies) bags were certainly the standout. The bag was the basis of the now famed Birkin, and here it featured a side pocket and chunky hardware, crafted from a variety of fabrics including Barenia Faubourg calfskin, mat crocodile, Fjord cowhide, and Togo calfskin.

Accessories

Jewellery came in the form of several pieces created from precious metals, as well as leather designs. Models walked the runway wearing long necklaces created from calfskin and dice complete with a palladium finished metal, while bangles were crafted from the same, as well as bridle leather.

Models showed off ankle boots and derbies crafted from calfskin with a notched sole, while sneakers were rendered through a technical knit and suede goatskin. For evening shoes, Nichanian introduced calfskin derbies that featured a notched sole, as well as detailing in the ever-present palladium.

The collection was as fun  as it was practical and luxurious, a collection for men who know where they are going. “Clothes need to feel beautiful against the skin, and they need to be practical too,” Nichanian said.
