For its Menswear Fall Winter 2022 campaign, Prada has decided to celebrate the art of storytelling. Hollywood is fuelled by stories, where powerful narratives are adapted from manuscripts and portrayed on screen.
In Hollywood, stories are told and portrayed by many storytellers, each with their own finesse. For this campaign, the Italian house, whose key interest is in real stories, has decided to cast talents who bring these stories to life. David Sims photographs three storytellers who have had a massive impact on cinema in the 21st century. Jeff Goldblum, Damson Idris, and Rami Malek are captured through intimate portraits to offer fresh perspectives in a new narrative.
Alongside Sims’s portraits, paradoxical still-life images frame objects that carry meanings to each actor. These unlock intimate memories in the actors who play themselves. The campaign is extended by the actors who tell their own stories, express their personalities, and recount their lives, which audiences aren’t always privy to. The campaign allows the actor’s own personae to flourish as characters, while their personal life journey makes up the script.
Still and moving images bring the campaign to a culmination, where the personalities behind the trio of individual and distinct characters are unlocked and celebrated. Through these unexpected and revelatory images, these storytellers tell us the stories that live on inside each of them.
