In the heart of Dubai Design Week 2025, Duette Studio unveils The Ephemeral Petunia Garden, a large-scale light installation that reimagines one of the city’s most modest yet beautiful blooms: the petunia.

Known for its brief appearance each winter, the petunia flowers for only 90 days between November and March, often unnoticed amid Dubai’s towering skyline. Duette transforms this fleeting moment of colour into a luminous, monumental experience, one that invites reflection on beauty, time, and resilience.

Rising from a mirrored base, softly illuminated petunia forms appear to float above their reflections, creating a dialogue between nature and architecture. By day, the installation mirrors its urban surroundings and nearby seasonal blooms; by night, it transforms into a glowing garden of light, a poetic pause in the rhythm of the city.

Rooted in Duette’s philosophy of emotional and multisensory storytelling, The Ephemeral Petunia Garden explores memory and transience while celebrating collective joy. It invites the public to slow down, reconnect with the city’s seasonal life, and see beauty in what is often overlooked.

Constructed from lightweight metal stems and powder-coated mesh petals, the work is both durable and sustainable. Its modular mirrored base is built from treated reflective panels over sustainable wood and steel supports, allowing for easy reinstallation in new settings. Produced in collaboration with Blachere Illumination, renowned specialists in light-based art, the piece balances visual impact with low energy consumption and high structural safety.

Duette Studio is a Dubai-based creative lab known for immersive installations and experiential design that fuse art, memory, and cultural storytelling. Through projects like The Ephemeral Petunia Garden, Duette seeks to craft spaces that awaken emotion, and linger long after they’re gone.
