Diesel (Instagram) is known for its audacious take on fashion, and the Spring/Summer 2024 collection is no exception. Creative Director Glenn Martens presents a collection that embodies the spirit of Diesel – democratic, experimental, and ready to party.
The fashion mega-show took place during an eight-hour rave, with over 7,000 guests, including 1,500 students, for whom tickets had been prioritised. But the celebration didn’t stop there. Across the weekend, a massive screen measuring 26 by 16 metres showcased free films curated by Diesel.
Martens’ vision for Diesel is all about living life to the fullest. Distressed fabrics, unique for each garment, create a sense of spontaneity. Jersey is bonded and distressed, jeans are encased in muslin, and inside-out jacquard indigo knits resemble distressed denim, with threads uncut like cobweb ladders on cardigans, tops, and dresses.
Utility reaches its peak with zip-up denim separates that can be worn individually or zipped together for a chic boiler suit look. Cargo pockets, held together by straps, give the appearance of full cargo pants. Belt bags transform into garments such as bandeau tops and miniskirts.
Diesel’s celebration extends to its film poster prints, created to celebrate the curated films and embracing Hollywood aesthetics. These prints adorn T-shirts, leather tops, skirts, and dresses, offering a dynamic range of styles, from action films to sci-fi and girl band movies.
Underwear takes centre stage, with sheer tops and dresses featuring stitch lines for bras and thongs. Some are ruched, resembling bodysuits, and come in various colours, including metallics. Diesel’s D-Vina Charm heels boast film poster prints, while D-Woodstock slip-on heels and sandals feature curved toes, resembling a metal cage of the Diesel D.
Accessories are bold and daring, with chokers and arm cuffs that mimic tattoos. Diesel Eyewear sunglasses, in collaboration with Essilor Luxottica, sport fine metal frames and acetate goggles-like styles. Chunky metallic chains adorn 1DR bags, and Diesel offers a new collection of sterling silver bracelets and necklaces with diamond-like shine.
