Dapper Dan has a legacy of reworking designer logos and materials into something fresh and current. GAP has collaborated with the Harlem-based fashion innovator to create a unique Dap Gap hoodie.
Dapper Dan is a Harlem legend who has made inroads into fashion by upcycling luxury fabrics to create custom pieces. Dan’s work soon became widely known and the designer quickly counted some high profile names among his supporters. Diddy, LL Cool J and Missy Elliot have all turned to Dan for help with their personal style.
The fashion innovator began his career as a journalist working at Forty Acres and Mule, where he commented on wide ranging topics ranging from gentrification to pop culture. Dan travelled to Africa and shortly after his return launched his own boutique that was based on a made to order model. Completely self taught, Dan experimented with a number or styles and materials, and his clothing was often heavily monogrammed. Since then, the designer has worked on a number of pieces and collaborations for some of fashion’s biggest names. These days Dan is well known in the design and pop culture fields and having dressed hip hops biggest stars, he’s cemented himself as a force in fashion.
The DAP GAP hoodie has launched in the Middle East, in Kuwait and the UAE, on December 5th at select GAP stores. They are also available online at www.gap.ae and www.gap.com.kw.
