Feathers, fringes and they're just the start

Trend Report: Texture Is Key For 2023

Texture and embellishment was big on the SS/23 runways. From feathers to fringes, tassels to tinsel, if a designer could add a touch of something extra, they did it with aplomb. OK, so this is a trend you likely won’t make the most of until early next year – most of the world is into festive big-coat territory (although the tinsel should work well for the next few months at least). But that just means you have time to plan your fit. Here’s what you should know…

Texture

The Trend

Throughout the SS/23 fashion weeks, we have seen numerous brands, including major couture houses add a richly textured garment to their collections. Designers are adding raffia, tinsel, fringes and feathers to their clothing to enhance the tactile aspect of garments.

Which Designers Showed Layers?

Designers who showcased at all the major SS/23 fashion weeks have added a textile note to their garments. Debuting at Paris Fashion Week Victoria Beckham presented a collection that was loaded with tactile adornments including fringes and tassels. The ex-Spice Girl also sent models down the runway carrying clutches riddled with different textures. Other designers to have added textures to their collections include Bottega Veneta, Jil Sander, Valentino, and Alexander McQueen, among others.

How To Wear It?

Expect dresses, shirts, dresses and even shoes with textured embellishments. If Victoria Beckham’s Paris show was anything to go by you should expect to find texture on accessories, too. At the same show, the designer sent models down the runway wearing black pointelle knit bodysuits and stirrup pants with a mini skirt. At Valentino, trench coats featured tinsels and feathers on the edges of the garment, giving it a luxurious lift. No matter what you are wearing next summer, adding a touch of texture to your garment is the way to go.
