Watches and Wonders 2026: Van Cleef & Arpels Turns Time into Poetry

At Watches and Wonders 2026, Van Cleef & Arpels presented a range of incredible watches that both tell time and tales like never before. Under the theme “Poetry of the Heavens,” the Maison continues to redefine time as something felt rather than measured, where mechanics serve emotion and craftsmanship becomes narrative.

At the core of this year’s presentation is the Midnight Jour Nuit Phase de Lune, a continuation of the Maison’s fascination with the cosmos. Within a deep aventurine glass dial, the Sun and Moon move across the sky in a 24-hour cycle, gradually revealing and concealing one another. This celestial choreography is paired with a precise moon phase complication, mirroring the Moon’s 29.5-day cycle. What sets the piece apart is its on-demand animation: with a push, the dial rotates fully, unveiling the current lunar phase in motion. It is less a function than a moment of wonder.

This poetic approach continues with the Midnight Heure d’ici & Heure d’ailleurs, where dual time zones are transformed into a visual journey. Instead of technical emphasis, the watch offers a sense of travel and transition, with jumping hours and retrograde minutes marking movement between places. The enamel dial, developed through complex firing techniques, shifts in tone with light, reinforcing the idea that time is never static.

Narrative reaches its peak in the Lady Rencontre Céleste and Lady Retrouvailles Célestes,  where time becomes storytelling. Inspired by the legendary lovers Vega and Altair, the dials depict moments of encounter and reunion through miniature painting, enamel, and gem-setting. Figures appear suspended within star-filled skies, surrounded by translucent clouds crafted using plique-à-jour enamel, creating depth and light that feel almost immaterial.

Elsewhere, the Ludo Secret revisits a historic design through a jewellery-first lens. Concealed beneath a sapphire-set clasp, the dial reveals itself only when opened, reinforcing the Maison’s fascination with secrecy and surprise.

Meanwhile, the Perlée collection offers a more minimal expression, where golden beads and aventurine glass come together to create a contemporary jewel that quietly tells time.

Across all these creations, one idea remains constant. Van Cleef & Arpels does not design watches around timekeeping, but around emotion. Its Poetic Complications collection, first introduced in 2006, continues to merge mechanical innovation with storytelling, turning each dial into a moment suspended between reality and imagination.

At Watches and Wonders 2026, the Maison invites us to look up, toward the sky, toward memory, toward feeling. Time, here, is not counted. It is experienced.
