Saudi Arabia’s First Auction
Nadine Kahil

For the first time in history, an international auction house is bringing down the hammer in Saudi Arabia. Sotheby’s is set to host its inaugural auction in the Kingdom on February 8, 2025, offering an unparalleled selection of fine art, jewellery, rare watches, designer handbags, and even sports memorabilia from legends like Cristiano Ronaldo and Michael Jordan.

Titled ‘Origins,’ this landmark event in Diriyah’s Bujairi Terrace will showcase over 100 exceptional lots, blending works from Saudi Arabia’s pioneering artists with internationally renowned figures such as René Magritte, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Wassily Kandinsky, and Fernando Botero. The exhibition, which runs until February 8, will give visitors a rare chance to experience these masterpieces up close, alongside immersive installations like a monumental digital artwork by Refik Anadol and an ethereal light installation by James Turrell.

Set against the backdrop of Diriyah’s UNESCO-listed At-Turaif, Sotheby’s first-ever auction in the Kingdom marks a new era for Saudi Arabia’s art and luxury market. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or a first-time bidder, ‘Origins’ offers something for everyone—from classic masterpieces to cutting-edge digital art, iconic sports memorabilia, and high-end luxury items.

With so much on offer, YUNG has selected some of the most standout pieces that are set to make waves at this historic event.
