Fresh from recent collabs with Adidas and The North Face, Gucci has now dropped an exclusive, online-only collection. Imbued with the type whimsy and glee that only creative director Alessandro Michele can muster (lots), Gucci Lovelight is described as an “expression of adoration” – which is understandable when you see the tailored shorts and high boot combo.
Comprised of men’s and womenswear – yeah, we know that’s merely a suggestion. The Gucci Lovelight collection was created by Michele as a “joyful expression of heritage”, and then offered in colourful contemporary fits.
“Expanding on the exploration of geometric codes from past collections, diamond-shaped patches of leather are stitched together to create a colourful design recalling one of the House’s emblematic symbols,” Gucci explained.
Colours are used playfully and added to key pieces in different shapes and sizes. Gucci’s quilted Bamboo 1947 top handle bag features playful heart-shaped motifs in baby blue added to the white leather of the top base, while the bag’s bottom is crafted from multi-coloured rhombus quilting.
The collection features some key apparel pieces. A nylon hooded jacket is wrapped in a grey and yellow comet print and features Gucci’s signature webbing and a three-dimension GG motif. Did we say it was a colourful world at Gucci?
T-shirts come in linen, oversized and boxy, and feature an embroidered bouquet. The t-shirt is accompanied by cotton trousers featuring an embroidered rear pocket.
Michele’s love for wide-leg trousers had to feature in the collection. Shorts tailored from Chambray denim are given the wide-leg pleated treatment. They also feature a Gucci motif that is customised with love hearts and clouds on its rear. Other pieces in the collection include a zip-up hoodie, camp-collar bowling shirt and track pants, all of which are saturated with antique tea set pieces. That’s your next tea dance attire sorted, then.
It wouldn’t be a Lovelight collection if it didn’t feature sneakers, now, would it? Michele crafted a pair of contrasting subtle Screener sneakers, as well as women’s slingback horse-bit heels that are given a glittery glow-up.
