ATHR – Fashion as Memory

Fashion often speaks about identity. Rarely does it ask where that identity comes from.

For Palestinian designer Mostafa Al Sous, founder of ATHR, the answer lies in the people who shape us long before we learn to define ourselves. His latest collection, Our Families Between the Lines, explores the invisible threads that connect family members across generations: the memories we inherit, the silences we carry, the emotions left unspoken, and the marks they leave behind. Rather than looking at family through a purely personal lens, the collection examines the emotional inheritance that quietly shapes who we become.

Presented as ATHR’s first fashion show, the collection marks a significant milestone in a journey that began five years ago. “Presenting my first solo fashion show is a very special and emotional moment for me,” says Al Sous. “It represents a journey of years of work, learning, challenges, and believing in the power of fashion as a way of expression and storytelling.”

The show continues a narrative that began with BAWH, a previous presentation centred on trauma, emotional weight, and deeply personal experiences. Where BAWH confronted pain directly, Our Families Between the Lines focuses on what comes after. Healing replaces confrontation. Reflection replaces rupture. The collection explores the aftermath of emotional experiences and how people continue to carry them through life.

Founded on the belief that clothing can preserve human experiences, ATHR has built its identity around transforming stories into wearable works of art. Through textile experimentation, craftsmanship, and emotional storytelling, each garment becomes a physical record of a lived moment. Rather than treating fashion as decoration, Al Sous approaches it as a language capable of carrying memory from one person to another.

“This collection is not only a presentation of garments, but a reflection of the stories, emotions, and experiences that shaped this journey step by step,” he explains. That philosophy is visible throughout the collection, where each piece functions as more than an object. Every garment becomes a vessel for memory, preserving traces of the people and experiences that inspired it.

The collection’s title points to its central idea: the stories that exist between what is expressed and what remains unsaid. Families are often built as much through silence as conversation, through inherited gestures, emotions, and experiences that are rarely spoken about openly. It is within these unseen spaces that the collection finds its emotional depth.

What makes ATHR particularly compelling is its commitment beyond the runway. A percentage of profits from the collection is dedicated to supporting psychological therapy sessions for individuals who share their stories through the project. The initiative transforms storytelling into tangible support, reinforcing the idea that fashion can function not only as a form of self-expression but also as a tool for care and community.

“This show was never only my own,” says Al Sous. “It belongs to every person who trusted me with their story, who shared a part of themselves, and believed in me to transform their experiences into something meaningful. Every piece carries a voice, a memory, and a human connection.”

As ATHR enters this new chapter, Al Sous remains focused on the people who made the journey possible. “I am grateful to everyone who supported me and helped turn this dream into reality,” he says. “This show is not only a new milestone for ATHR, but also a new chapter in my journey as a designer, and I am truly excited to share this moment with everyone.”

In an industry increasingly driven by spectacle, ATHR offers something quieter and arguably more powerful. Our Families Between the Lines is not simply a collection of garments. It is an exploration of memory, belonging, healing, and the people who leave lasting traces on our lives. Through fashion, Mostafa Al Sous continues to create space for dialogue, empathy, and the preservation of stories that might otherwise remain between the lines.
