Valentino’s Spring Summer 2023 collection looks towards purity. Pierpaolo Piccioli Unboxed Valentino’s latest collection at Paris Fashion Week, where he did away with the unnecessary, and placed focus on the essentials. The result was a minimal collection with Valentino’s entry into iconography.

The co-ed collection brought about minimalism in construction, juxtaposed with maximalism prints. The house’s monogram seemed to be everywhere, on a collection that featured coats with trains, dresses, and trimmed coats with individually placed feathers. Piccioli translated womenswear into menswear through shorts and t-shirts complete with crystals.

The collection also featured boxy and oversized double-breasted blazers, boiler suits with crimped hems and waistbands. Logomania has taken over the fashion industry in recent years, with all the high fashion houses adding logo-branded prints to their collection. Logomania is levelling up for 2022, and Valentino is now in on the act.

The opening look for the Spring Summer 2023 show saw a model almost completely covered in Valentino’s logo, from head-to-toe: her face painted with it, her sheer gloves and stockings covered in it, and her pumps sporting the famous V logo.

The 91-look collection featured 9 looks that were logo branded, making it the central visual focus for Spring, just like the PP Pink was for the fall.

“Pureness as a conscious synthesis,” the brand wrote in pre-show notes. “The intentional removal of what exceeds. It is subtraction, not absence. It leads to the essential, with all the tension of implication. Those empty spaces do not lack content. They declare personal choices.”

The collection may have been about revealing what’s on the inside, and Piccioli did this for all his looks. Instead of having models walk down the runway for his finale, the designer, along with the models stepped outside onto the street. This move ultimately revealed the looks on the runway to all the passers-by on the street. Perhaps that was the ultimate reveal.
